Although this price guide is not carved in stone, it will give you a fairly good idea of what you might expect to pay for a good ‘pet’ quality hedgehog from a reputable breeder.

Males -Salt and Pepper, Dark Grey, Grey, Brown, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Champagne, Dark Eyed Cinnicot, Ruby Eyed Cinnicot, Apricot range in price between $100.00 - $150.00

Females -Salt and Pepper, Dark Grey, Grey, Brown, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Champagne, Dark Eyed Cinnicot, Ruby Eyed Cinnicot, Apricot range in price between $150.00 - $200.00

  • ALBINO: Albino hedgehogs appear to be void of all colour or colour pattern. They have white quills only and always have red eyes. The lack of colour or white quills masks their true colour and colour patterns. When Albinos are included in a breeding program they can help produce new colour varieties and also help to improve patterning. This makes them important in many breeding programs. They start at $100.00 each but are priced according to their lineage, which can be normal, snowflake, pinto etc.
  • SNOWFLAKE and SILVER: A hedgehog that is referred to as a "Snowflake or Silver or Chocolate chip" has coloured/banded quills mixed in with approximately 30% to 70% of white quills. This gives the appearance of having a light silver hue or having been dusted with snow. Snowflakes are a little uncommon but are not rare. Although all hedgehogs change their colour as they mature Snow flakes change drastically as they mature. Snowflakes start at $25.00 more than the price of a regular coloured hedgehog.
  • PINTO: Pinto is not considered a true colour but rather a colour pattern. It can be any colour with a pattern of spotting or patches of white, which is void of colour mixed in with another colour. The amount of white may vary in size from as little as dime size patches to as 90 % of the animals’ body being covered with white patches. Most often when the amount of white spots covers less than 25% it is referred to a regular Pinto. Pintos are quite stunning, unusual and also a little more challenging to produce. Pinto patterned hedgehogs start at $25.00 more than the price of regular colours or Snowflakes.
  • HIGH WHITE PINTO: When the amount of white spots covers more than 25% of it’s quills it is referred to a High White Pinto. These are very stunning and perhaps one of the most sought after of all the hedgehogs. High White Pinto Hedgehogs sold as pets, start at $50.00 more than the price of regular colours or Snowflakes.
  • REVERSE PINTO: When the amount of white is greater then the amount of colour it creates the illusion that these are white hedgehogs with darker markings. This pattern is often referred to as a Reverse Pinto. These are extremely difficult to produce and if you are lucky enough to find one they are especially helpful in a colour breeding program for breeding high white pintos. (They are expensive and only available to breeders we know personally and are not readily available as pets)
  • RETIREES: We do not breed any of our animals after they are 15 months old. Therefore all of our breeding animals are retired no later then 18 months of age. They are offered for sale to pet homes while they are still young enough to make good pets. They are sold at a reduced rate of 25 % less then the regular price of a baby of the equal colour.

Prices do vary throughout the year. Hedgehogs do not breed as often during the winter months. Therefore during November through March when there are fewer hedgehogs available and the prices are slightly higher

'We are often asked why females are more costly than a male.'

- A breeder normally keeps fewer males than females. Often the ratio is 1 male to 3 or 4 females. Therefore there may be more males available to choose from.

- Most responsible breeders do not breed their females more than two or three times before they are retired from their breeding program. Once a female has been retired it will often be sold/placed in a pet home and then replaced by a younger female.

- Some breeders price the females a little higher to discourage irresponsible people from purchasing them for breeding.
